Nothing is More Honest Than a Shop Window

Perhaps you’ve been spending most of your time at home or the gym, with lighting you can somewhat control or mirrors you can half avoid, but your incessant thought remains… what do I actually look like?

There is nothing more honest than the shop window. Take ten minutes of your day, once a month, to plod down your local high street and look at your reflection in the shop windows.

You’ll see what your body really looks like, you’ll see how well you’re moving, you’ll see if your haircut really suits you, and you’ll see if your clothes come close to fitting you.

With this method in place, you can actively avoid looking at yourself for the rest of the month, and the shop window will keep you accountable to keep away from slip ups.

Every individual’s lessons will be different, but each lesson will be valuable. For example, one lesson I learnt was that if I have anything longer than a “short” haircut, my head looks too big for my body. I become laughable. You can’t buy that kind of advice at home. You need the window.

Poem | Shop Window

A man found his confidence scattering,
With his reflection sincerely unflattering,
So he bought a hair comb,
Then headed straight home,
After Waterstones gave him a battering.
